Diplo is officially a hit making machine. After releasing arguably the biggest song of 2015 in "Lean On", Major Lazer's collaboration with DJ Snake and MØ, he's returned in 2016 with yet another wickedly popular track.
We had a feeling that "Cold Water", Major Lazer's newest collaboration with Justin Bieber and MØ, was going to be 2016's biggest summer anthem. The track is made for widespread appeal, but as it just became the Global #1 Hit on Spotify in under 4 days, it's safe to say it's going to be heard everywhere for the rest of the year. It took "Lean On" 3 months to become Spotify’s Global #1, but "Cold Water" just blew that out of the water in record time.
It's also safe to say that Diplo has gone full mainstream, just in case you didn't know already. Churning out Pop hits is his specialty at this point and it will be interesting to hear the new Major Lazer album, which will likely drop in January 2017. Diplo recently revealed in an interview with Zane Lowe that he's been working on new material with artists like Usher, Sia, and MØ, so we can likely expect more pop music to follow.
In addition to climbing to the top of Spotify's Top 200 chart just as the 2015 festival season started gaining momentum, "Lean On" went on to become Spotify's most streamed track of all time by November of the same year. At this rate, "Cold Water" stands a chance of dethroning it soon - if another star-studded single from Music Is The Weapon doesn't steal the spotlight first.
Keep an eye out for more information regarding new Major Lazer music, as Diplo said we can expect a single from the forthcoming album to drop next month- and another before the end of the year.
No matter what you think of Diplo, you can't deny that he knows how to put out music that will climb the charts with a vengeance. Listen to "Cold Water" below to hear what all the fuss is about.
