When we think of Detroit, we immediately think of music - and while there are many shows and even festivals hosted in Detroit throughout the year, there is one that's starting to stand out. While only in its third year, Charivari Detroit has begun to establish itself as a truly iconic festival.
For newcomers to the Detroit scene, Charivari was founded in back in 2014 and has taken place on the well-known (and well-loved) Belle Isle Park, which is connected to downtown Detroit by the MacArthur Bridge. For the past two years, the festival has done a phenomenal job of bringing together Detroit artists for a weekend of great music.
We spoke with Todd Johnson, Charivari Detroit co-founder (as well as marketing grand poobah), to get some insight on the festival’s history, as well as what to expect this year:
"[Charivari] was started by co-founder Steve Dunbar assembling a group of like-minded individuals to curate a Detroit party lifestyle event. We are looking forward to seeing the growth of the brand this year and watching attendees interact with some of the new components like island yoga, boxing, Cymatic Soles dancing instruction, Charivari Health and the art component featuring many of the hottest emerging Detroit artists.”
As far as creating a true Detroit party lifestyle event, they have exceed many people’s expectations by bringing together artists like Juan Atkins, Eddie Fowlkes, DJ Godfather, Detroit Techno Militia, ATAXIA, and oh so many more. Charivari is quickly becoming the place to catch both not only Detroit legends but also up-and-coming artists here in the city.
Tickets are still available, too! Well, for people between the ages of 17 and 59, that is. Anyone under the age of 16 or over 60 will get in for free.
Charivari Detroit's official 2016 lineup and set times are below, and additional information can be found on the event website. It will take place on Belle Isle Park from August 5th-7th.
