Crystal Castles have made a triumphant return in 2016, punctuating two rigorous world tours with a landmark release. AMNESTY will mark the Toronto-based experimental electronic music duo's first studio-length album since Edith Frances replaced Alice Glass as vocalist, and they've shared a single titled "Fleece" just ahead of the official album drop.
"Fleece" exhibits the same bombastic aggression characteristic of Crystal Castles' other releases - if not perhaps even a bit more. A suspenseful progression is gives way to blaring synths throughout the song, with Frances' ethereal vocals echoing across the high end.
AMNESTY comes out through Casablanca Records on August 19th, and then the duo will wrap up their current tour with two performances in England on the 26th and 27th. After only a brief respite, they will continue on with a staggering 47-date world tour that kicks off on September 6th with a performance in Carrboro, North Carolina and extends into December.
If the AMNESTY tracks that have come out early are any indicator, the album should make for a fitting addition to the rest of Crystal Castles' discography. It's unlikely that the duo would release more from the effort in the three days leading up to its release, but then again, they're not known to be creatures of convention.
