Out of all the reunions taking place in 2016, few are as unexpected as that of M.I.A. and Diplo. After their public falling out in 2010, details of the two artists' unhealthy relationship reignited the controversy last year - but they appear to be working together once again.
M.I.A. recently tweeted a promotional image for the second single from her upcoming album, A.I.M., titled "Bird Song." In addition to the song's official release date, the tweet lists Diplo as the song's producer.
In a 2015 interview with Rolling Stone, M.I.A. recalled that Diplo had been critical of her success, going as far as to destroy furniture in her hotel room after learning that she had been signed to Interscope. As such, it comes as no surprise that her recent announcement has elicited a disquieted response from her fan base.
Diplo had also been partly responsible for M.I.A.'s 2007 track "Paper Planes," which reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100, thereby standing out as M.I.A.'s most popular song to date.
The first single from M.I.A.'s upcoming album, "Go Off," had come out on July 14th and featured Skrillex and Blaqstarr as producers. "Bird Song" is slated for release on August 12th, and the rest of A.I.M. will come out on September 9th.
