Whether by curating events or brewing his own sake, Richie Hawtin is no stranger to expanding his brand outside of music alone. Earlier in the year the second-wave Detroit techno icon made a foray into DJ gear with the unveiling of his MODEL 1 mixer, and now he's got the likes of Nicole Moudaber, Paco Osuna and Matador acting as ambassadors of the PLAYdifferently technology.
According to Mixmag, techno titans like Chris Liebing, Maceo Plex, Mike Servito, Dubfire and Loco Dice had already agreed to join Hawtin on the Prototypes Tour, exclusively playing DJ sets on the Model 1. The purveyors of the technology have also forged a partnership with UK nightlife brand The Warehouse Project in conjunction with the most recent additions.
Moudaber commented that the "sound experience and attention to detail implemented [by the MODEL1] is second to none," and Matador claims that the mixer has become the "centre-piece" of his live performances.
Hawtin himself will continue his world tour with performances in Hungary, Croatia and Spain next weekend before a couple of dates in Brazil next month.
