Beatport just can't get it right nowadays. The electronic music world almost universally celebrated the news that the download store would incorporate genre tags for "Future House," "Dance" and "Big Room" into its interface - but what they couldn't have known until the actual implementation was that the latter tag would be assigned to all tracks previously categorized as "Electro House."
The change has gone into effect today, September 12th, and has affected the track listings of artists like Feed Me, Wolfgang Gartner, and Mord Fustang. Most notably, however, music belonging to none other than deadmau5 has been re-categorized as "Big Room." While the 'mau5 has yet to embark upon one of his famous Twitter tirades, a source close to the progressive house icon has told Magnetic Magazine that "he is pissed."
As of this writing, only a handful of the artists affected by Beatport's update have even realized that their music has been re-categorized. As a tidal wave of backlash undoubtedly ensues, however, we can expect the online music marketplace to issue an official statement in the days to follow.
