Sage Armstrong has become a household name since his breakout release “What’s Yo Tempatcha?” on Dirtybird. By defying genres and blending the sounds and rhythms of his influences, the Florida native has created something that he can truly call his own—a vibey, bouncy take on modern beats with a unique southern hip-hop flare. In his own words, “Growing up in Florida & being exposed to rap for so long organically influenced the music I make”.
With numerous releases on labels Main Course, Perfect Driver, and Dirtybird, Sage has garnered support from heavy-hitters like Justin Martin, Claude VonStroke, Bot, Astronomar and many more.
Armstrong will be playing his debut set at the Dirtybird Campout come October 1 and 2. This year Sage will be performing alongside artists such as Ardalan, Green Velvet, Reggie Watts, Billy Kenny, Catz ’N Dogz, German Brigante, J. Phlip, and many more.
Good music isn’t all the campout has to offer, though. If you don’t catch Armstrong at his set, there will be plenty of time to hang with him during campout activities like kickball, boat races, and tug of war.
Check out Sage Armstrong’s hip-hop playlist and commentary for the Dirtybird Campout below!
1. "Die By Myself" - Lil Yachty & K$upreme
The beat & flow on this track is what I dig the most about this tune. I love how Yachty & K$upreme rap back & forth in this one in a very chill tone. They kind of remind me of a 2016 Big Boi & Andre 3000 when they rap together.
2. "Got The Keys" - Jay Z & Future
I love how this song is the perfect hybrid of Atlanta rap and hip-hop. Jay Z completely murdered the lyrics in his verses and I love to see new things like this in hip-hop: two artists you never never would have expected to collaborate in 2016. This track is a game changer.
3. "90210" - Travis Scott
The Intro in this track is insane, Ive never heard a beat like this. I love the Lyrics as well -especially when he says, "She a porn star girl, oh, from the valley who left her hometown world all for the alley. It paints the perfect picture and reminds me so much of L.A. - people leaving their hometown to pursue there dreams and hitting rock bottom. This track is deep!
4. "Right Now" - Lil Uzi Vert
All-time favorite Lil Uzi track right here! The beat has so much feeling along with the way he sings on it. I also love the way the bass breaks down in certain parts of the track.
5. "Mr. Me Too" - Clipse ft. Pharrell Williams
One of the craziest Neptunes beats ever - I love all the sounds used in this tracks. This song makes me want to skateboard and go shopping.
6. "Nothing But Net" - Travis Scott feat. Young thug & PARTYNEXTDOOR
This track has such a dark & droney vibe. Such a amazing collaboration from these 3, super original sound right here.
7. "Last Call" - Kanye West
I love this beat and the samples they used in it. Such a feelgood track with dope lyrics. I also like the little story he tells at the end haha
