If DJ Mag still had the support of any reasonable electronic music fans in recent years, the nail in the coffin came when Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike were named #1 last year after their unsavory marketing practices came to light. That clearly hasn't stopped some of the movement's loudest voices from speaking out against it, as deadmau5, Kaskade and Dillon Francis have all aired their own grievances with the awards ceremony.
deadmau5 addressed DJ Mag directly by firing off the following tweet, which prompted Kaskade to chime in with the one underneath:
Dillon Francis has also raised questions about the awards by posting the following video - which briefly calls out Nicky Romero - to his Facebook page:
As for the awards themselves, Martin Garrix was awarded the #1 spot this year. I'm not the biggest fan of his music, but at least this go-around an artist who actually makes their own tracks received the honor.
Being that the DJ Mag Top 100 elicits insurmountable outrage at this time every October, it's likely that this isn't the last we'll hear about it from famous DJs spanning the electronic music spectrum. In the meantime, I'd like to hear from you, so give me your own thoughts on the awards ceremony in the comments section below.
