One of electronic music's seminal breakthrough acts has revealed a new album in the works, and by the sound of it, it does the rest of their discography justice. Depeche Mode have held a press conference in Teatro dell'Arte at La Triennale di Milano in Milan, Italy to reveal that they will release an LP titled Spirit in the spring of 2017.
Depeche Mode doesn't even enter the stage until about 12 minutes into the video above, at which point they announced Spirit, which will be the trio's 14th studio-length album. A production assistant then cued up a video preview of some of the songs from the effort on the projector screen behind them - and the new album sounds like the band at their best.
The album has been produced by James Ford of Simian Disco, and Matrixxman will also be included in the production credits. In addition, Depeche Mode teased that they will kick off a 32-date tour of the album's namesake in May to coincide with its release.
While the trio have yet to announce an official release date for Spirit, chances are it will arrive sometime in the month preceding the first date of the tour. In the meantime, Depeche Mode fans can likely expect one or more of the songs from the album to find its way onto the airwaves.
