September 21, 2016. Blindsided by an island-wide power outage just two days before the launch of DreamLand, Kevin Moreno and Pablo Marques had no doubt that they were about to bring something big to San Juan, Puerto Rico. No pressure.
Armed with a couple of generators and backed by a crew of five other 22-year-olds, Moreno and Marques knew DreamLand, a two-night (September 23rd and 24th) electronic music festival, was set to make history. Composed of a killer sampler platter of electronic music styles, DreamLand had something for everyone from trance, hardstyle and dubstep to big room house and drum and bass.
The original two-stage setup at the retired military barracks of Cuartel de Ballajá was knocked back to just one stage by the blackout - and what a blessing in disguise it was. Excision and Zomboy headlined the first and second nights, respectively, and they were supported by a mix of local and international talent.
Khomha, Sirk, Jay Hardway, GhostKilla, Wolvsun, DNA, Coone, Chavalo, JVO, Firebeatz, and Megalodon all killed it, with Wolvsun, DNA, and Chavalo pulling a crazy back-to-back-to-back performance that really got the crowd going. The very first edition of DreamLand brought out 6,300 people the first night and sold out with 7,000 people the second, which screams big things for its future.
No first event typically goes so smoothly and is as successful, but DreamLand sure as hell was. Check out some of the highlights in the gallery below and be ready for next year.
