Social media is still a young enough field that it’s still anybody’s game, but it’s a volatile game, and a successful brand can end up being little more than a flash in the pan. It has come to light that such is the case with Vine, as its parent company, Twitter, has announced that they will discontinue the platform’s mobile app.
"Today, we are sharing the news that in the coming months we’ll be discontinuing the mobile app.", Vine representatives wrote in a statement via Medium. "Nothing is happening to the apps, website or your Vines today."
The “singular, first-class experience” model that dominated social media platform interfaces during the rise of mobile may end up giving way to a new trend of some sort. Vine has not revealed when it will officially discontinue its mobile app, but will likely make the announcement sooner than later.
