Donald Trump has reinstated a global gag rule that will rescind any federal funding for organizations that deal with abortions when working on women's health. Even when the federal funding does not go to actual abortions, if the nongovernmental organization offers abortion, this will disqualify them from receiving financial aid.
This has been a rule that has been going back and forth between Republican and Democratic presidents, with each presidency signing a executive order to allow or to bar the funding provision.
According to the Huffington Post, "The United States spends about $600 million a year on international assistance for family planning and reproductive health programs, making it possible for 27 million women and couples to access contraceptive services and supplies." None of the federal funding goes towards funding abortions, but this will severely impact women across the world when discussing family planning and reproductive health.
The signing showed an over-abundance of White males at the signing, and highlighted the lack of women making decisions about their health, showing us how evidently disturbing men making choices for women can truly be.
