Facebook is reportedly looking to branch out into music rights and licensing, according to a new piece released by Bloomberg Technology. Facebook’s interest in music rights is most likely linked to the growth of video streaming through the platform and the potential ad revenue that entering music could mean.
“We’re hopeful that they are moving towards licensing music for the entire site,” said David Israelite, president of the National Music Publishers Association, an industry trade group, to Bloomberg Technology.
Several hurdles are still in the way for Facebook to accomplish a deal, including copyright and how the platform would handle music and video in a sea of photos and tv clips. While the speculations are abuzz and there's nothing been confirmed yet, things seem to be heading towards an even more inclusive Facebook in the future.
