When we last posted about Denon's latest attempt at entering the premium DJ hardware market, our final thoughts on the subject were that this could be a serious threat to Pioneer DJ. Well, we called it. After getting a hands-on experience at NAMM, any doubts were vanquished. The only thing stopping the company from truly taking on Pioneer was the lack of artists using their gear. This final hurdle has been cleared, because today, Denon DJ announces that the deck-wizard Laidback Luke is now the latest artist to become a brand ambassador. Some of you might scoff at this as an "EDM DJ stunt", but regardless of your opinions, Laidback Luke is without a doubt one of the most skilled DJs on the planet. To have someone with such technical abilities align themselves with a product such as the SC5000 shows that Denon DJ really means business.
We are going to make another prediction. Once this dust settles, we will start to see more DJs switch over to the Denon setup. How many remains to be determined, but we are confident that it will happen. In his own words, Laidback Luke said, “The Denon Prime Series is an organic fit for my DJ sets. Its functionality is extremely intuitive and its performance delivers exactly the quality that I need.” All that remains now is for the company to release a demo video of him tearing the Prime setup a new one, and any naysayers will be silenced, which according to Luke's Facebook page is coming very soon.
