Cristoph is a Newcastle-born producer who knows how to have a good time. With that in mind, we sat down with him to learn more about WMC, surviving a weeklong party/conference, and more.
We also managed to get a mix of what to expect at his sets and at his performance at Ultra this weekend. Check out the exclusive mix below, and check out our interview!
Hey Cristoph, thanks for taking the time to chat with us. When was your first WMC and what have been your favorite moments of the event?
No problem at all, thanks for having me. This is actually my first WMC so I don't have any favourite moments as of yet. I'm sure I will by the end of it though, I'm really excited to get over and play and get around the parties.
What does your schedule look like? What are you looking forward to at the event the most?
With it being my first one I have decided to fly over a few days before my show so I can head to a few parties and just take it all in really. Ever since I was a little boy I have dreamt of playing at this event so I really want to make the most of the time I'm there. My first show is at Space on Saturday 25th alongside Eric Prydz which I'm really excited about. I have heard so many great things about the venue and to play alongside one of my heroes will make the experience even better. My second show is the following day at Ultra. To be asked to play this is a real honour for me and quite surreal, another gig I really can't wait for. There's so many great events all week that i couldn't pick out just one.
What is the importance of WMC during the modern era where 'festivals' and conferences feel more abundant than in the past?
For me WMC will always be the original. It was the first one I heard about as a boy growing up and the one I always wanted to be involved in. I think it seems to be the first one of the year where people really start picking up on the music which is going to be big for the summer and the rest of the year. A lot of the big Ibiza tracks seem to make their first appearance at WMC. A lot of artists take the early months of the year off touring to produce so this is where they can first showcase their new tracks.
What can people expect at your sets?
At my sets, I will be playing quite a bit of my new material and basically sticking to the sounds I love and have become known to play. Those dark, melodic, driving records really do it for me.
Finally, what can we expect for the rest of 2017?
After WMC I go on to tour North America for another 2/3 weeks before heading back to Europe for gigs. I head back across to North America in June to play EDC in Vegas and before this I think I have a few shows in South America in May. I'm in and around Europe a lot of the summer especially Ibiza. There's a possibility of another South America tour towards the end of summer and the Asia and Australia at the end of the year. That's all I'm allowed to mention at the moment until the rest are finalised and announced. It looks like a busy year so I'm very excited about that.
