I saw my first West Coast festival at LA State Historic Park in 2013. It was an enlightening Halloween, at the height of HARD's booking prowess then, that Day of the Dead sent me towards the work I'm doing right now.
I remember when they closed the park a couple years ago, and decided to swap its wrecked grounds for beautiful grass, to make it anew, and revitalize it along with the rest of LA's rebirth. It became uncertain then whether the site would return to its use for congregation and music: would the city want to risk the restored park?
Thankfully, the city of Los Angeles has found a middle ground, teaming up with Radio Hill and 89.9 KCRW to throw a tasteful one-day festival on the new LA State Historic Park. Skyline will features Miike Snow, Lido, Duke Dumont, Eden, Michl, Elohim, and Jason Bentley. It's a sharp contrast from the park's old modus operandi in scale, but brings a veritable line-up of musicians to this beautiful Chinatown site once more.
