We've got a bit of a big one for you today in the form of a look into Engrave LTD, a relatively new record label that's been gaining attention since its inception for their cutting edge style and unique curation.
We sat down with the guys behind the label to learn more, and we also have an exclusive look at one of the tracks off the upcoming collection. Listen to Sisio's song below, and read on to learn about the label below.
How did the record label start, why did you start a label, and do you feel that your message and goal have changed over time?
Engrave Ltd was founded in 2013 by me (Dodi Palese) and Musumeci, we had since longtime the idea to do a label together and when the time was right we started. We both come from other experiences of production which are still part of our work but the goal of this new experience here it was clear from the beginning and has remained the same: promote electronic music at 360 degrees, so does not really matters what genres or style. The label is open to different types of sounds: from the nu-disco to techno, from house to old school sounds. Actually we just started the collection serie with the "Engrave Ltd Vol. 1" to create a more clear platform to represent better this vision.
What would you say are the biggest challenges in managing a label? Were there unexpected obstacles you ran into when you started?
The main challenge is always to stand out and make the difference. To create something new and original that it can meet at same time the public's taste. Ofcourse this is also the hardest part but we consider it as a process still developing.
Where do you feel the label going from now? Do you have personal goals looking forward towards the future of the label?
More than the destination, we are interested in the journey. We pay a lot of attention to what happens around us, we try to contaminate and same time to be contaminated by any kind of musical culture. Every colleague that we meet, every country we visit, every production we make, contributes to this journey. We are curious to find out ourselves what will happen!
The music world can be daunting. What advice would you give those that are looking to make their own big break?
I do not think that the music world is daunting. I rather think that it takes a great passion and motivation, but I believe this is a starting condition for every project of life and work. Music is also a job, it takes commitment, research, sacrifice. Obviously we're lucky, we make a very fascinating job. But you can never really separate it from the commitment and passion, otherwise it can not work.
What can we expect from the label for the rest of 2017?
In June will be released the second part of the A45's Stray EP including a remix of Musumeci, after the summer an EP of Jepe and something else i cannot still announce. In the meantime, we are receiving and selecting demos for the Volume II of the Various.
