Quartet Series, for those who have yet to stumble upon them, is a label run by Maurits, aka Nachtbraker (which is Dutch for night hawk), out of Amsterdam. The label refuses to be limited by genres, opting instead to follow the music. Looking through the back catalog, you can clearly hear the derisive taste, ranging from slow deep grooves, wild tracks with jazz influence, and unconventional dubby tracks. This culminates into a label that is hard to get tired of, and no matter the release, the Quartet Series will have those feet move, face distorting and inhibitions fading away. Their latest release by Scott Franka stands testament to everything that Maurits is achieving with Quartet Series.
Producing since the incredibly young age of 11, Franka has always had a way of expressing himself artistically, but not until he used the name Scott Franka did his musical career come to fruition. Although this is his debut EP, the tracks have the sound of a well-established producer, breathing tight sophisticated compositions over some deep, groovy bass lines that lend to this EP.
The four songs on ‘The Gym’ EP will surely give you a work out as you traverse through the melancholic chords, undeniable groove, and incredible amalgamation of synths and 808 hats so fat you can't not clap!
