Greetings techno citizens. Please pardon the month long absence as I've been busy gathering ten of the absolute best that techno had to offer in February.
Notable additions include three separate Italian duos all landing on the same chart. A second ever techno release for Radio 1 darling, B.Traits. Plus, my top pick belonging to Radio Slave and his 100th ever release on Rekids!
1. "ANOTHER CLUB" - RADIO SLAVE [REKIDS]
2. "BREATHE OUT" - B.TRAITS [IN.TOTO]
Every Friday night on BBC Radio One, B.Traits serves as techno's unofficial ambassador by serving up a three hour radio show playing the best in cutting-edge techno. However, given the high-quality of her first two releases on her new label, it would seem that she's spending a lot more time making the tunes rather then playing them.
The first release featured the brilliant "Still Point" which kicked off the label late last year and the second being this particular humdinger which is a bit more rough around the edges and a lot more effective on the floor.
3. "LORD OF MECH (TREVINO REMIX)" - TECTURE [BTAIM]
Former drum and bass producer, Trevino continues the techno dominance by lending his expert remixing hand to Tecture's "Lord Of Mech" on the German imprint, BTAIM. Out now strictly on vinyl and soon to be released digitally.
4. "TIMES" - ILARIO ALICANTE [DRUMCODE]
Italian techno star, Ilario Alicante first appeared on Drumcode early last year on the A-Sides comp and this year he's making a full debut on the label with a set of tunes including this floor-stomper he's calling "Times."
5. "ECLIPSE" - MIND AGAINST & AETHER [AFTERLIFE]
6. "FUTURA" - UNDERCATT [DIYNAMIC]
Italian duo, Undercatt triumphantly return the Diynamic stable with three very forward thinking tunes including the extremely appropriately named title track, "Futura!"
7. "MASKARA" - PLEASUREKRAFT [KRAFTEK]
Pleasurekraft samples Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut soundtrack for this sinister techno tune called "Maskara."
8. "MOVEMENT" - TOM FLYNN [INTO ORBIT]
Tom Flynn is certainly pushing the boundaries with his latest EP, The Gluten Free Lobster. Not only with the whimsical title but additionally with the musical styling. Particularly this one called "Movement" which could very well be the soundtrack of a modern day 2001.
9. "KOMET" - MOONWALK [STIL VOR TALENT]
Moonwalk is the third Italian duo to land in the techno chart this week and they deserve it just as much as the others thanks to this blazing hot floor tune that features an immaculate arp laid out beautifully on top of a throbbing kick-drum.
10. "FORCED RHUBARB CENTRE OF THE WORLD" - AGGBOROUGH [NO REAL VALUE]
The No Real Value imprint continues it's tradition of field recording for production on their third ever release which features a couple of tunes from British producer Aggborough. Including this beast of experimentation that features a Burial type kickdrum along with many of the sounds captured by Aggborough out in the field including an art exhibition and also at a sculpture park. So get comfortable and let your mind wander along to the "Forced Rhubarb Centre Of The World."
