Coachella

From day one back in 1999, Coachella has always made music the foremost component of the festival. It's always been about the music for them and their fans as well. So with this mutual understanding, the festival organizers have always constructed their  roster with a formula consisting of legacy acts, popular acts, and underground acts. Sure, everyone knows the popular acts and the die hard fans will be there for the legacy acts. However, the lesser known underground acts is where the magic really happens at Coachella.

So if you're just having trouble reading that fine print on the festival poster. Or maybe you're just planning on checking out the headliners. Not to worry because we've handpicked ten of the best lesser known artists set to appear at the 2017 edition of Coachella.

DIAMANTE ELECTRICO (FRIDAY @ 350PM) - SONORA

DiamanteElectrico

Columbian rock trio, Diamante Electrico have been around since 2012 and in just the past five years they've covered some serious ground by recording three outstanding albums that have garnered them multiple accolades. Especially their 2015 album "B" which even scored them a Latin Grammy for best rock album.

Performance-wise, the band is setting the stage for worldwide recognition as they've already opened for both Foo Fighters and The Rolling Stones. Not to mention, they're making a landmark debut at Coachella this Friday afternoon on the newly minted Sonora Stage.

DREAMCAR (SATURDAY @ 715PM) - GOBI

DREAMCAR

No Doubt fans are rejoicing now that the original band (minus their original singer) is back at it again along with former AFI frontman Davey Havok. Plus, they've got a new brand name with a new sound as well. The name is Dreamcar and the sound evokes 80's New Wave nostalgia with a slick, modern twist. But what's more of a treat is that the group's performances at Coachella will only be their sixth and seventh live shows. So with a debut album that isn't due out until May 12th, I would highly encourage a festival sprint to the Gobi tent right around dusk to catch this dazzling new band.

HONEY DIJON (SATURDAY @ 130PM) - YUMA

HoneyDijon

Raised in Chicago, mentored by Derrick Carter, and heavily influenced by Danny Tenaglia, Honey Dijon has been steadily building an impressive career in house music going back almost twenty years.

Catch her in action at 1:30PM on Saturday at the Yuma tent and be prepared to get down to some seriously jacking grooves.

KLANGSTOF (FRIDAY @ 125PM) - GOBI

Klangstof

To be quite honest, my ears were only first exposed to Klangstof just last week under the circumstances of Sasha putting his god-like touch on "Hostage." A tune that was released almost a year ago but one that's still gaining steam thanks to a slew of critically-acclaimed performances along with bucket load of shows already planned for the rest of the year including tour support for both Miike Snow and The Flaming Lips

So get to the gates early on Friday in order to catch these Dutch rockers who's sound is being compared to the likes of Radiohead and Sigur Ros.

LATMUN (FRIDAY - WEEK 2 ONLY) - DO LAB

Latmun

As of late, British tech-house producer, Latmun has been responsible for some of the snappiest, floor-filling club tunes on the circuit. Especially his current Beatport crushers, "Everybody's Dancin" on Relief Records and his remix of "Egyptian Lover" which took Miami Music Week by storm.

Stay tuned for Weekend Two set times at the Do Lab in order to catch this rising star of house music.

MIKEY LION (SUNDAY - WEEK 2 ONLY) - DO LAB

MikeyLion

California is a scene full of playa-tech DJs who's sound have all become somewhat monotonous. However, Southern California's Mikey Lion has never jumped on that bandwagon. The Desert Hearts commander in chief has always stayed true to himself as he continues to trail-blaze the West Coast transformational festival scene with his signature tech-house style. An uptempo sound consisting of heavy grooves and punchy rhythms.

Weekend Two set times coming soon.

PREOCCUPATIONS (SUNDAY @ 205PM) - MOJAVE

Preoccupations

Under the former band name of Viet Cong, Canadian post-punk rockers, Preoccupations self titled 2015 album made many best of year lists. Now under their newly coined band name, they put out another self-titled album just last year which received similar positive feedback. Come this Sunday though, Coachella will have their own say by getting a very lucky chance to catch these genre defiers.

RED AXES (SATURDAY @ 3PM) - YUMA

RedAxes

Niv Arzi and Dori Sadovnik are two producers from Tel Aviv who originally played together in a punk rock band but later on ditched their guitars for synthesizers and formed the eclectic and unconventional dance music duo known as Red Axes.

Catch their well-anticipated 90 minute set Mid-Saturday afternoon inside the Yuma tent.

SOFI TUKKER (SUNDAY @ 345PM) - GOBI

SofiTukker2

Not since Hot Chip, has an indie-pop act generated the amount of buzz that Sofi Tukker has ever since they released the remarkably quirky Soft Animals EP last July which has won them praise from all across the globe. Most notably with their Grammy nomination for "Drinkee" as the year's Best Dance Recording."

ZIPPER CLUB (FRIDAY @ 1PM) - MOJAVE

ZIPPERCLUB2

Zipper Club may be a new household name but it's two founding members are not. Mason James once took part in the garage-rock antics of Cerebral Ballzy and Lissy Trullie was a praised post-punk solo artist who released her own self-titled album in 2012.

Together with Damar Davis on drums they are currently working their way towards a highly anticipated full length which is being exclusively produced by James Iha of Smashing Pumpkins fame.
