Although this past Saturday started out pouring rain, that didn't stop concert-goers from traveling to Governors Island to see Hardwell. I had a ton of fun covering the show, and it was also my 2nd time seeing Hardwell. My first time was at Electric Zoo 2016.
The afternoon started out with 4B throwing down some dirty trap and bass, with a small mosh pit going on and a few people covered in mud. Bassjackers took the stage next, which is when it started raining again. Normally I'd take my camera gear and head for shelter, but the people's energy made for some fun shots! I was probably most excited to see Deorro because I've been a long-time fan of his music, and he seemed like such a genuine guy. I'm so glad that turned out to be true, because not only did he play a great set in preparation for Hardwell, but he was genuinely thankful to all his fans afterwards.
If I had to compare both Hardwell sets I've had the chance to be at, the Governors Island show takes the cake. It probably helps I was backstage this time around, and I was running from the opposite side of the island trying to catch the last part of his set at Electric Zoo. His newest single "Creatures Of The Night" features Austin Mahone on vocals, and the visuals that went along with the song were awesome. You got dystopian Japan vibes that felt futuristic but also fit the song very well.
And in honor of Father's Day, Hardwell even brought out his parents and the crowd gave them a huge applause. It was very touching.
Hardwell is currently on tour, so be sure to check out dates here.
