As the electronic underground continues to grow in endless sonic directions, Los Angeles continues to draw young producers from all over as the unofficial world capital for seemingly every surging music scene. With so much talent converging in one place, new platforms like PluggedIn.LA, a collaboration between producer JSTJR (pronounced “gesture”) and local creative collective Late Night Laggers, are bound to emerge for young artists to come together and share their work for dance floors packed with their peers and fans of the new sounds and styles they are creating.
Over the last year, PluggedIn.LA has become best known for their monthly after hours parties dedicated to highlighting producers, labels and collectives behind underground movements around the world. With a rapidly growing fan base at home and online and JSTJR’s latest EP “Never Squad Down” set for release on Insomniac Records, this March JSTJR and the PluggedIn.LA crew took their global message on a three-city tour, which included a special invitation from Insomniac Records to host the first PluggedIn.LA Official SXSW Showcase in Austin, TX.
At every stop, the lineup featured performances by JSTJR alongside Uniiqu3 and Ma-Less, both producers, DJs, and vocalists featured on the “Never Squad Down” EP who are well known for raising the energy at any show with their hybrid DJ/live performances. Rallying around the core trio in celebration of the new release, tour stops featured DJ sets by Dave Nada, Happy Colors, The Borrowers, False Witness, SpydaT.E.K, Late Night Laggers and more.
With so many artists representing different sounds and styles on the tour, there were plenty of memorable moments captured on video that show the massive energy around each show.
