Jamie xx has put his own DJ moniker largely to the side over the past year in favor of his band The xx with the release of their critically acclaimed album I See You and the busy corresponding world tour. However he is finding time this summer for a few DJ sets, which included an outstanding Boiler Room set alongside some friends.
The four-hour session featured some artists Jamie xx is a fan of like Plútó, Orang Volante, Kelsey Lu and JFDR. This all led into a little over an hour of Jamie xx at the controls, who span some ambient and atmospheric tracks, mixed in with some disco and up-tempo house.
The Boiler Room set has of course your familiar cast of characters dancing way too close to the DJ or looking like they don’t care. The Icelandic rooftop is a much nicer view than the inside of a club.
The Boiler Room set was to promote The xx’s upcoming Day & Night festival in Iceland, which will take place between July 14-16. The three-day event will feature performances by the likes of Warpaint, Sampha, Jagwar Ma, Kamasi Washington and those who performed for Boiler Room.
