Cut Copy recently released their first single in four years titled “Airborne”. Equal parts guitar, celestial synth and bottom-heavy bassline, the five-and-a-half minute masterpiece shifts gears multiple times. The song has a light-hearted disco feel and is light and airy. It is the type of song you want to listen to on repeat because of its ability to touch and move your soul. The song offers an early glimpse of the new material the GRAMMY-nominated Australian band has been recording in studios around the world. "Airborne" marks Cut Copy’s first release with Astralwerks and was produced by Ben Allen (Deerhunter, Animal Collective).
In support of “Airborne”, Cut Copy also released a quirky music video featuring its frontman and original founding member Dan Whitford. The video for “Airborne” paints the picture of a somewhat surreal world and features some excellent imagery, which includes shots of Whitford playing the piano. Like the single, the music video also builds up to the psychedelic outro.
Initially, a bedroom recording project by lead singer Dan Whitford, over time Cut Copy evolved into a full live band made up of guitarist Tim Hoey, drummer Mitchell Scott, and bass player Ben Browning. In the past decade, Cut Copy has headlined sold-out shows and gaining prime slots at renowned festivals such as Coachella, Ultra, and Lollapalooza. Cut Copy's high-energy live show is matched by the beautiful complexity of the band's songs. Their sound encompasses a multitude of genres such as disco and post-punk and is layered with melody and dissonance.
