Forbes has released its annual list of the top 10 highest paid DJs in the world and the list has a new newcomers. Your typical big-name DJ superstars are there with their hit records, high streaming numbers and most importantly, six figure pay days for gigs and Vegas or Ibiza residencies. Calvin Harris retains his top spot once again with his Vegas residency and headlining festival gigs, while also releasing music that actually sells and puts up streaming numbers. There are two newcomers on the list and they are making quite the splash. The Chainsmokers rise to number three and Marshmello comes out of nowhere to number eight.
Just like The Chainsmokers over the past year, their meteoric rise on the radio, the charts, streaming services, everyday, has now been felt in the wallet. They bagged an estimated $38 million during the scoring period. That is from gigs and because they actually sell music all over the world, including “Closer,” which has gone 7 times platinum in the US and even more in other countries.
Marshmello is the real shocker. If anyone thought this was still a joke, well Dotcom is laughing all the way to the bank. Making $21 million in the last scoring period from selling his music independently, merchandise and touring relentlessly, the brand is strong.
