Here’s a recap of important music business news you need to know:

1. Streaming & Distribution Companies Target Hate Speech:

With the attention of the world firmly on Neo-Nazis and white nationalists in the United States after the march in Charlottesville, hate speech has become a hot topic. This has also become a topic in music as streaming and distribution services have made statements this week against hate speech and taking steps to remove obviously hateful and racist music. It raises the question of censorship in music, which is why this is quite difficult for these services. Where do you draw the line? Will it move as society’s attitudes towards race shift? That is what they will have to figure out over the next few months to create the proper protocols to stop hosting hate speech.

3. Snapchat Unveils New Feature To Watch Concert Videos:

Snapchat is in a heated battle with Instagram and not doing well. It seems like every feature it comes out with, Instagram just clones as users are choosing one or the other for their story social media of choice. Snapchat is looking to make sharing concerts a little better with a new feature, Snapchat Crowd Surf stitches together concert footage from various users at a show into one more watchable video. It uses artificial intelligence machine learning technology to analyze videos when a lot of people are at the same location filming the same concert. The resulting video will piece together videos from different angles at the concert. We will see if this can give Snapchat the edge over Instagram or if Instagram will just quickly clone this.
