Over the past few years, SCRVP has been making waves on the East Coast as the head of acclaimed collective MMXVAC. SCRVP has already earned more than 3.5 million plays on his remix of The Chainsmokers' hit song "Paris" and also recently performed at Electric Forest Festival. For his latest song "Give It All", SCRVP collaborated with Chicago based producer duo Secret Sauce. I recently had the pleasure to sit down and interview SCRVP and Secret Sauce about their newest track and find out more about both of these talented young artists.
Sylvie Barnett: How did you guys end up collaborating?
Secret Sauce: We met at Columbia College Chicago, where we were both enrolled. Our first collaboration came from a class project that had us remix a song using the unique sounds from our home scenes. Recognizing that our hometown styles meshed, we decided to take our music beyond the classroom. We had an idea for the song and reached out to SCRVP, and the rest is history.
SB: What draws you to the style of music you're making right now? What's inspiring to you?
SCRVP: I'm constantly trying to satisfy myself with the music I’m making. I want to listen back when I'm seventy and still love the music I made.
SS: The two of us have two completely different styles and we just want people to feel good while they are listening to our music, just like how we felt while we were making it.
SB: How are you pushing yourself further as a musician? What do you hope to accomplish in 2017 and beyond?
SCRVP: I'm trying to make as much music as I can. I’m teaching myself how to make music that makes me happy, but the DJ in me is always cautious to what the crowd might like.
SS: We just want to be respected and known as a talented artist. Like we want our names to be mentioned alongside the greatest producers of all time.
SB: SCRVP, can you please tell me a little more about the concept behind MMXVAC? How did it start?
SCRVP: It started as a group of producers supporting each other on SoundCloud. At the time, I was the artist with the most notoriety so I took the charge and turned an Artist Collective into a company.
SB: SCRVP, you recently performed at Electric Forest. Can you please tell me what that was like?
SCRVP: It was great, I could not have asked for a better festival debut. Electric Forest is one of those festivals that is hard to explain to someone, you just have to go and experience it for yourself. The vibes are so right.
SB: What are some things that your fans can look forward to in the near future?
SCRVP: Definitely a lot of music, but I’m also going to be pushing the boundaries of how my music is presented visually.
SS: We plan on making a lot more music and seeing our versatility in our music continue to progress.
