When you think of Maceo Plex, you think of consistently insane quality music, that is instantly recognizable right from the get go. If you're a newer fan, this is all you know, but if you've been around for the last 5 or so plus years, you'll know that Maceo Plex was actually just a side project started for fun. Maetrik, his original project, was a much darker and raw sound that he put on the back burner for a while. It seems the time has come for him to get back in touch with his darker side, and we couldn't be more excited.
To celebrate this return, Maetrik's first EP comes via the new label Clash Lion, the brainchild of Shall Ocin, TERR, and Daniel Watts. These three artists all come from different musical backgrounds and plan to utilize this to their advantage, with plans on releasing Techno, Vintage Electronica, and everything in between. If TERR's latest release on Hotflush Recordings is anything to judge this by, we are in for a serious treat.
So what about Maetrik? Well, the two track EP, aptly titled The Return, is a mix of warping, spacey Techno with that signature Maceo feel, but in a much rougher context. "Cortex 11-B," the track we get to hear first, starts with a big reverbed kick, and slowly builds into a strange, bubbling grinder that would be ideal in transition to really kick things off on a Friday night at your favorite club. We will, unfortunately, have to wait until September 29th for its release, but until then, Soundcloud will have to do. Oh and, on top of a digital release, each release on Clash Lion will be available on vinyl as well. Stream "Cortex 11-B" by Maetrik below.
