This is not a drill. Houston's most badass festival, Day for Night, just dropped the line-up of the year. If you're not familiar, the festival takes place in Post HTX, a 1.5 million square foot cold-war era post office that, as a live event space, has retained all of the austere charm you could ever need. This is not simply a music festival, however; the organizers primary focus is on the experiential aspect of live entertainment. With 18 separate art installations and some of the best lighting set-ups in the country, you'll be hard pressed to keep your eyes on the stages. The festival has some huge names at the top of the bill like Solange, Nina Kraviz, Jamie xx, Tyler, The Creator, James Blake, Nine Inch Nails and Justice.
This year also brings us the Day for Night Summit, which kicks off the festivities with a Friday night event that includes a speaking panel of four prominent activists. Government transparency and LGBTQ activist Chelsea Manning, visual artist and performer Laurie Anderson, Nadya Tolokonnikova of Pussy Riot, and LA based artist Lauren McCarthy will speak on all manner of topics, followed by a special musical performance by some jaw-dropping talent. A so called "Soul Cleansing" from Saint Heron accompanied by Solange, followed by performances from Earl Sweatshirt and Kaytranada.
Tickets are available here.
