Makoto's Top 10 Drum & Bass Chart - Soul Special - Magnetic Magazine

Ready to board the soul train? Makoto's got your one-way ticket to feel good town.

Exclusively signed to Hospital Records and on his fifth album already (the aptly named Salvation) Makoto's trademark sound is soul rolling, jazz soaked drum & bass.

If you can't catch the Makoto-meister at London's Hospitality In The Park next month, we hope you can take some consolation in the top 10 he has compiled below...

Take it away Makoto!

"I Don’t Wanna Wake Up" - Makoto ft. Karina Ramage [Hospital Records]

This tune was a challenge for me as it sounds different from what I've been doing over the past year... but Karina has provided some amazing vocals and I’m really happy with the results.

"Sanctuary" - Nu:Logic [Hospital Records]

Powerful disco feeling on this track by Nu:Tone and Logistics. It’s a perfect blend of their separate styles.

"Emerald City" - Hugh Hardie feat. Pola Bryson [Hospital Records]

Amazing tune from next generation young gun's Hugh Hardie and Pola & Bryson. Love the chord progression so much; really emotional and soulful.

"Ahead Of Me" - Alibi & Command Strange [V Recordings]

This tune has been in my sets for long time, I just love the bassline and it goes off every single time I play.

"Dehydrated Funk" - High Contrast [3 Beat]

Really good to see that funky side of High Contrast back and really looking forward to his new album.

"Unified Theory" - Phaction feat. Leo Wood

I’ve noticed a lot people have started using acoustic bass in D&B again, which I’m really happy about, and this is one of the good examples- so jazzy.

"Keep On" - Redeye feat. GLXY & Tyler Daley

Great to see Redeye back with another strong release, plus, anything Tyler Daley touches always turns out golden.

"Wingsuit" - Dirtybag [Innerground Records]

People say I play out harder tracks in my sets than they would expect. But I do go fairly hard sometimes, and this tune is one of the examples. I just love anything with soul and funk.

"Flare" - Frederic Robinson [Hospital Records]

Beautiful music. I love how he uses all those analogue synths at a Drum & Bass tempo - no easy feat given how fast it is. Incredible track.

"Angelic" - Silence Groove [Offworld Recordings]

It’s quite difficult find a tune like this nowadays. It has serious atmospheric vibes and I have been really missing it.
