AC Slater, also known as Aaron Clevenger, has developed a huge following over his career with his signature "Night Bass" sound, which fuses the most infectious elements of house music with the dirty basslines of UK garage and sprinkles of old-school rave synths and breaks. AC has transformed Night Bass from a local Los Angeles-based club party to a globally recognized brand and record label. In this exclusive Q&A, I had a chance to chat with AC about the recent release of his first ever full-length LP titled Outsiders

Sylvie Barnett: What influenced you to create the diversity within the Outsiders LP?

AC Slater: I wanted the Outsiders album to represent my sound in the club but also showcase a slightly wider spectrum of styles within that framework.

SB: How would you describe the style of music you produced in the Outsiders LP?

AC: I would call it Night Bass, that’s what I call the umbrella of styles that I love. Night Bass is anything from house to bassline, grime to garage and all the in between. It’s basically bass-driven dance music that is heavily influenced by the UK scene.

SB: What has been your career highlight to date? Anything you're looking to accomplish when it's all said and done?

AC: Creating Night Bass and watching it grow continues to be a massive highlight of my career. Obviously, the release of Outsiders because it is my first full-length album. I can’t believe how well received it’s been so far. I’m feeling very blessed. As far as the future, the sky is the limit. I’m just going to keep building as much as I can.

SB: The Outsiders LP features numerous collaborations. Is there anyone that you'd like to collaborate with that you haven't had the chance to yet?

AC: There are so many very talented artists out there right now that it’s crazy. But I would love to crossover and work with unique artists who are in their own lane, people like Andre 3000, Tyler the Creator, Kari Faux, etc. I love their originality.

SB: What can your fans expect from you for the rest of 2017 and beyond?

AC: I just finished my UK Outsiders tour, and now I’m kicking off my Outsiders North American tour that will go on from October to January 2018. We’ve got a few music videos to release from the album. As far as Night Bass we have a ton of amazing releases from different artists on the label through the rest of the year.

The Outsiders LP features eleven tracks of club-ready, pump shaking booty bass-driven melodies. It includes numerous collaborations with notable artists such as Tchami, Rome Fortune, Herve, and Shift K3Y. AC's production is simultaneously both forward-thinking and original.
