The 15 Best Techno Tracks of September 2017 - Magnetic Magazine
Underground techno dominated the month of September.

The usual suspects like Tiger Stripes and Julian Jeweil made their normal appearance in this month's techno chart but for the most part, a whole new selection of underground artists dropped some serious floor-drillers this past month. For example, Nicolas Bougaieff helped re-launch the legendary NovaMute imprint and Swiss producer, Specialivery remixed his own 2015 cut and the result was devastatingly good! Top all that underground supremacy off with two brand new Tale Of Us cuts along with an unbelievably euphoric new one from Bicep and you have yourself the very best of what September 2017 had to offer.

1. "ORCA" - BICEP [NINJA TUNE]

Bicep dropped their monumental, self-titled LP at the beginning of the month and this absolutely magical tune had the honors of kicking it off.

2. "THE HANGAR" - TALE OF US & VAAL [AFTERLIFE]

On the flip-side of Tale of Us' dazzling new single "Monument" is this earth-rattler they call "The Hangar."

3. "ATON (2017 AUTOREMIX)" - SPECIALIVERY [KINESEN]

I first heard this bass-pummeling tune rocked by B.Traits a little over a month ago and I was on the prowl for it until I was finally able to dig out of my inbox just last week. The track comes courtesy of former Swiss armed forces Lieutenant, Carlo Bernasconi. Better known to the beloved techno world as Specialivery.

4. "COGNITIVE RESONANCE" - NICOLAS BOUGAIEFF [NOVAMUTE]

Nicolas Bougaeiff's Cognitive Resonance EP marks the return of one of techno's most historic labels, NovaMute. An imprint founded in 1992 that featured landmark releases form Richie Hawtin, Joey Beltram, Speedy J, and practically anyone else that was laying the foundation of modern techno in the '90s.

5. "MONUMENT" - TALE OF US & VAAL [AFTERLIFE]

Tale Of Us' magnificent collaboration with Vaal features a few different amazing remixes but it's the stripped back beauty of the original that shines the brightest.

6. "CALL ME (EMMANUEL TOP REMIX)" - ELLEN ALLIEN [BPITCH CONTROL]

'90S acid purveyor Emmanuel Top has done a phenomenal job of remixing Ellen Allien's "Call Me" by taking the track into very deep territory and adding a absolutely wicked, bubbling-filter effect.

7. "MAKALU" - DEEPAK SHARMA [HIDDEN RECORDINGS]

Hidden Recordings label-boss, Deepak Sharma makes an astounding solo debut on his own imprint with the Annapurna EP and it features this pounding, underground destroyer he calls "Makalu."

8. "SPACE" - JULIAN JEWEIL [DRUMCODE]

French techno expert, Julian Jeweil returns to the mighty Drumcode stable with five outstanding floor-crushers including the title track, "Space."

9. "SANSUI CRUISE" - QNA [TRUE ROTARY RECORDINGS]

Danish techno label, True Rotary sees their fourth ever release from the newly minted duo, QNA. A rather stunning collaboration between label co-founder Joel Alter and Quarion who have supplied three ace tunes including this warehouse-ready tune that is guaranteed to send your next party into a frenzy.

10. "ECHOES" - TRPTYCH [DIFFERENT IS DIFFERENT RECORDS]

The c-side on TRPTYCH's return to Different Is Different is this mind-bending journey deep down a tunnel of sinister reverberations.

11. "BODY TRIP" - TIGER STRIPES [TRUESOUL]

Swedish producer, Tiger Stripes rarely skips a techno chart here at Magnetic and his return to Truesoul is a definite shoe-in thanks to it's driving kick-drum complemented by a personally nostalgic vocal slice of Krome & Time's '92 jungle classic "This Sound..."

12. "UNCONFUSED" - THOMAS SCHUMACHER [NOIR MUSIC]

Strap yourselves in for this ten minute acid-belter which comes courtesy of Thomas Schumacher taken from the second edition of his Natural Rhythm EP on Noir Music

13. "BROOKLYN STREETS" - ONNO [INMOTION MUSIC]

ONNO's Break It Down EP features this absolutely rocking b-side entitled "Brooklyn Streets."

14. "EXISTENCE" - SAMA [KRAFTEK]

SAMA's debut on Kraftek is blistering, gritty, loud, and unexpectedly melodic. Don't you love it?!

15. "TRIESTE" - RUEDE HAGELSTEIN [UPON YOU RECORDS]

It's been ten years since Ruede Hagelstein last appeared on Upon You with the third ever release on the imprint. Fast forward to present day and he's finally back on the label with three snazzy tunes on their 126th release. Including this unconventional number he calls "Trieste."
