Europe is home to some of the greatest EDM festivals in the world. It has Tomorrowland, the two-weekend event in Belgium that attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors, Ozora, the world's biggest psy/progressive trance event in Hungary, Outlook, gathering cohorts of dance lovers in Pula, Croatia, and many others. In the recent years, though, many new events have emerged in Eastern Europe like Android casinos in the last few years, making the global festival circuit far more diverse, giving participants the possibility to explore new cultures and local artists in the process. Below, you'll find a handful of up-and-coming Eastern European EDM festivals you might want to include in next year's festival calendar.
Balaton Sound (4-8 July 2018, Zamárdi, Hungary)
Balaton Sound, Hungary's "party beach", has celebrated its 10th anniversary this year with names like Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Tiësto, David Guetta and Calvin Harris and underground artists like Dixon, Seth Troxler, and Ricardo Villalobos. The festival is mainly EDM-focused but it often ventures into areas like urban and hip-hop. Since Hungary has no seasides (it is surrounded by dry land in any direction) its only "sea" is Balaton, the massive freshwater lake in its Western half. Each summer, it is invaded by tourists, old and young, bathing, sailing, and windsurfing all around.
This year's lineup and ticket prices have not been revealed yet.
Electric Castle (18-22 July 2018, Bontida, Romania)
Electronic, rock, and indie merge into one massive event each summer in Bontida, Romania, during Electric Castle Festival. It is an eclectic, up-and-coming event with a long list of international artists and an ever-growing mass of visitors - this year, the event had 174,000 attendees from 55 countries, 9 stages, and 307 artists coming from all over the globe. Over its five years of history, its stages were taken by performers like The Prodigy, Skrillex, Sigur Rós, Bring Me The Horizon, Bastille, Paul Kalkbrenner, Die Antwoord, Gorgon City, Enter Shikari and Bonobo.
Tickets for Electric Castle are already available online.
Untold Festival (2-5 August 2018, Cluj-Napoca, Romania)
Untold Festival has a short but successful history. Since its inaugural edition in 2015, Untold has grown into one of the most important EDM events in Romania, with 330,000 tickets sold in 2017. The three-day event, held in the Transylvanian city Cluj-Napoca, was headlined this year by Afrojack, Armin Van Buuren, Axwell /\ Ingrosso, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Hardwell, Martin Garrix, Marshmello and Steve Aoki, and its lineup had well-known names like Ellie Goulding, Tinie Tempah, John Newman, Sven Vaeth, Lost Frequencies, and many others.
