Cassettes are on the up and up as sales grew a whopping 35% this year. This was largely due to the release of soundtracks by Stranger Things, The Hamilton Mixtape, and Guardians of the Galaxy, along with a re-release of Yeezus, Nirvana's Nevermind, and Prince's Purple Rain.
Cassette sales still only take a tiny percentage of overall music sales but considering cassettes have been getting more and more popular each year, there is definitely a niche market building up. Considering that sales went up an amazing 74% in in 2016, it'll be exciting to see what will happen in 2018. No one expected records to blow up again either, so cassettes don't seem too far out of place.
