Kendrick Lamar is taking on the role as producer for Marvel’s upcoming Black Panther movie. Lamar will be joined by Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith to curate the album inspired by the movie, set for release in U.S. theaters on February 16. The first taste of the album features a superstar collaboration between Lamar and SZA titled “All The Stars.”
“Marvel Studios’ Black Panther is amazing, from its cast to its director. The magnitude of this film showcases a great marriage of art and culture,” says Kendrick in a statement. “I'm truly honored to contribute my knowledge of producing sound and writing music alongside Ryan and Marvel's vision."
The single sounds like a soundtrack collab between the two and not something that might appear on either one of their records. It isn’t bad, just a bit different from either one with a more uplifting feel.
The film was directed by Ryan Coogler who handpicked Lamar (hard choice) to produce the soundtrack.
“I am honored to be working with such an incredible artist whose work has been so inspirational, and whose artistic themes align with those we explore in the film. I can't wait for the world to hear what Kendrick and TDE have in store,” said Coogler.
No other details have emerged about who else will be on the soundtrack, but with TDE and Lamar at the helm and the hype around the film, there will likely be plenty of artists scrambling to get on this project. Check out the single and eventual album here.
