Spotify is taking a big step to respect remixers on their platform. In the past, plays for remixers would only count for the original artist’s page. Now it is adding the plays to the remix artist’s monthly listeners. The update will also backdate all remixed recordings to the beginning of 2015.
In addition to additional plays on the remixer’s profile, remixes will be eligible in the popular and latest releases sections on the remixer’s profile, which was rolled out in October 2017 and has been important. Finally, remixers will get the song-level data analytics for the remix.
To hype up the move, Spotify even got Louie Vega to talk about the importance of remixes. Read what he has to say here.
