DJ Zinc has linked up with Makoto to remix Zinc’s own 2017 single “When I.” While the original was a soulful house and garage tune, the pair have gone more towards drum and bass – familiar territory for both artists.
The remix keeps a lot of the same soulful properties of the original, but injects more energy and enthusiasm into. With a steady, crisp, but not overpowering drum and bass bassline carrying the tune underneath fluttering synths and vocals, the pair haven’t tried to do too much, but still made a great remix.
The collaboration came about when the pair were hanging out together in London.
“I was hanging out with Makoto when he was in London and we were listening to some of the music we had been working on,” recounts DJ Zinc to Magnetic. “I played him the house mix of “When I” and he suggested we do a drum and bass remix. The result is somewhere between my jump up vibe and his musical elegance. Rolling neatly!!"
The remix will be released tomorrow as part of a two-track EP that includes a VIP mix of DJ Zinc & Chris Lorenzo’s tune “Grammy Elbow.” Pre-order the EP here.
