One of the UK’s biggest festivals, Leeds & Reading has announced its 2018 lineup and it is quite different from those in the past. Understanding the current trends in music, it has gone heavy on hip-hop and pop, ditch in large part its rock roots. The festival will be headlined by Kendrick Lamar, Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco, Post Malone, Skepta and others.
That doesn’t mean there won’t be some rock music. Kings of Leon, Courtneers and Wolf Alice are headliners, while other acts such as The Wombats, Underoath and Papa Roach will perform.
Kendrick Lamar is the biggest name on the bill and he will be joined by Post Malone, J Hus, Skepta, AJ Tracey, Brockhampton and Playboi Carti on the bill representing hip-hop.
There is a bit of dance music scattered around the lineup with Diplo being the biggest name, along with Bicep (Live), Annie Mac, The Magician and Netsky b2b Jauz b2b Slushii.
Seeing Dua Lipa and Sigrid that far up the bill may be the part that angers many of the old rock faithful. Then again old timers will always say that past festival bills were better.
Many fans are wondering where the big rock bands to headline are, but this represents where music is today. There also could be scheduling conflicts, radius clauses and the like that are preventing other bands, such as The Artcic Monkeys, from performing.
More names will be added to the lineup. Reading & Leeds will take place Bank Holiday weekend from August 24-26 in both cities. Tickets are on sale now.
