Run The Jewels have been named the ambassadors for Record Store Day in 2018. They follow in the path of other massive names across music such as Metallica, Iggy Pop, St. Vincent, Jack White and Chuck D. The announcement was made on Sirius XM this morning.

“I can’t tell you how proud I am to be the least wealthy Record Store Day Ambassador,” jokes El-P. “This is a community that I’ve always been a part of, so when I was asked to do it, I said ‘of course!’ I’m honored and it means something to me… I’m really grateful to do this.”

The rap duo have a history with record store day that extends back to 2015. They released a 12” as an exclusive that year and then had unique offerings for RSD and Black Friday in 2017.

"Indie stores fostered my love of Rap. Super Sounds in Atlanta [and Decatur] were my havens as a kid," says Killer Mike. That's where I heard new music, argued about our favorite artists and even met some artists there. I lived for the day I was a poster on the wall."

They are hinting at a special release on Record Store Day in a video here. RSD will take place on April 21. A full list of releases will be shared soon.
