Spring is officially here and the bass music tracks keep flowing. This month we highlight fresh finds in future bass, trap, global bass, drum & bass, halftime and wave.

1) GODLANDS - 'PLEASURES' [SLEIGH RIDE]

“Pleasures” is the latest offering from Aussie bass producer Godlands. Godlands fuses airy chords with slapping hip hop drum patterns that swerve around bouncy basslines on “Pleasures.” The track boasts a seductive combination of soft, synth-infused breakdowns and driving bass-drops. 

2) YOOKIE - 'PROJECT 9' [BASSRUSH]

The New York bass duo Yookie are on the rise with recent releases on Deadbeats and a killer collab with Jauz and Josh Pan. Their latest single “Project 9” on Bassrush builds quickly before dropping into a bass assault that completely rips up your speakers and headphones in a very infectious way.

3) IVY LAB - 'CAKE' [20/20LDN] 

Ivy Lab, the experimental UK bass unit which consists of d&b producers Stray and Sabre, drop their first single “Cake” from their upcoming album Death Don't Always Taste Good. Ivy Lab delivers a halftime bass tune that punches hard, while still floating on melodic textures and off kilter samples. “Boi I got my mind on cake!”

4) BALKAN BUMP - 'IRFAN' FEAT. PAUL BERTIN [LOWTEMP]

Balkan Bump is the newest project from trumpet player, producer and ethnomusicologist Will Magid. Musically, Balkan Bump is a fusion of live instruments, world influences and lush electronic production. His debut EP flaunts experience as an instrumentalist and arranger, fusing energetic Balkan brass with heavy electronic production and hip-hop/trap influences. “Irfan,” the first track from his self-titled EP is a perfect example of the above that caught the attention of Gramatik and his Lowtemp label.

5) SLANDER - 'HAPPY NOW' [MONSTERCAT]

SLANDER is known for their signature heavy bass music but they show a more emotive side on "Happy Now," their newest release on Monstercat. "Happy Now" embodies the feeling of wistfulness with cinematic basslines and airy melodies that pull on the heartstrings with plenty of low end to keep the bassbins rattling.

6) EKALI & ZHU - 'BLAME' (NGHTMRE REMIX) [OWSLA]

Ekali and ZHU's catchy collaboration "Blame" (which we highlighted in January) receives a hard-hitting remix by NGHTMRE, who preserves the original's scintillating melodies and ZHU's dreamy vocals, but amps the track up with a percussive crescendo that finishes with reverberating basslines and soul-shaking synths. 

7) RL GRIME - 'I WANNA KNOW' (FEAT. DAYA) [WEDIDIT]

The king of trap, RL Grime, recently announced that his sophomore studio album is done. No further details such as title or release date were revealed, but a new track surfaced. "I Wanna Know" featuring Daya on vocals is a lush uplifting bass tune with strong pop sensibilities, snarling trap snares, and catchy guitar hooks.

8) AUTOGRAF - 'DEAD SOON' FEAT. LILS & BONSAI MAMMAL [ALT:Vision] 

Chicago's chill beat trio, Autograf hit us with their latest release "Dead Soon" featuring Lils and Bonsai Mammal. The three minute slice of future bass revolves around seizing the day with thought provoking lyrics and textured sonics.

9) ARIUS - 'THIRD EYE' (FEAT. BORN I MUSIC) [DIM MAK]

Bass duo ARIUS partner with Born I Music on “Third Eye,” a grimy, trap-infused banger that delivers an artillery of adrenaline-spiking beats and heavy low ends. This is not for the faint of heart.

10) VOLO - “MYSTIC” [GRAVITAS]

Drifter is the latest release from San Diego artist Volo, out on Gravitas Recordings. Healthy doses of both pulsating hip hop and bass are shaped by substantial infusions of world instrumentation on the EP. The standout track “Mystic” is a bass bouncer that glides over smooth and twisted synths.

11) DYZPHORIA - 'WORTH' [LIQUID RITUAL]

The wave music scene keeps growing and the Liquid Ritual imprint has positioned themselves as a hub for this burgeoning subgenre. The label is dropping their first compilation, aptly titled Liquid Ritual Vol. 1 on April 27. The first single from the album comes from Vancouver based producer DYZPHORIA. The track hauntingly builds into a bass heavy beat, with knocking drums and spaced out sci-fi synths. 

12) DOTORADO PRO - 'SWEET AFRIKA' [ENCHUFADA]

Dotorado Pro is a young Lisbon global bass producer whose taken a fresh approach on the burgeoning afro-house scene. “Sweet Africa” is his first official release in almost two years. Fast-paced interwoven melodic patterns looped over layers of urgent syncopated percussion, vocal samples and dramatic flute notes create an intense dancefloor workout.

13) HYROGLIFICS - 'CHEYHBOI' [CRITICAL MUSIC]

London’s Hyroglifics come correct with his new EP, titled South London’s Finest on the tastemaker drum & bass label Critical. “Cheyhboi” is the most intriguing of the lot, with its pulsing kicks, jittery textures, and thumping bassline.

14) MONTY - 'MAGMA' [1985 MUSIC]

French d&b producer Monty just released Hypnotize on Alix Perez’s 1985 label. The EP drives through the gears delivering four tracks of tough future sonics. “Magma” is a techy roller with bassline sounds pinging from wall to wall.

15) DRUMSOUND & BASSLINE SMITH - 'KILIMANJARO' [TECHNIQUE]

Drumsound & Bassline Smith are back with a new EP titled Kilimanjaro on their Technique Recordings label. The title track is an absolute drum & bass stormer with a thunderous sub, that are mimicked and matched by strident djembe percussion, over rolling breaks. The results is a call-and-response soundclash, sure to get the dancefloor lit.
