A fresh take on a future icon, the new split tongue model packs some serious heat drawing on flavor from the native Japanese herb Wasabi, designed to wet the appetite of sushi enthusiasts around the world.
Originating from Asia, Wasabi is typically found growing alongside stream beds in the mountain river valleys of Japan. Authentic forms of this Far Eastern delicacy are typically served as an accompaniment to traditional Japanese sushi dishes such as sashimi.
GEL-LYTE III’s ‘Wasabi’ pigskin nubuck uppers mimic the seafoam green color of Wasabi, paired with gunmetal ASICS stripes depicting the rocky regions in which the herb originates. Tropical peach tones also feature, designed to complement the green, just like the pairing of sashimi, wasabi, and pink pickled ginger.
GEL-LYTE III ‘Wasabi’ sneaker pushes the boundaries on its debut, with its sole, GEL cushioning and signature split tongue. The collaboration will also be celebrated with an END. Japanese character patch on the tongue, dual-branded leather footbed, and heel patch.
For the launch, the GEL-LYTE III ‘Wasabi’ sneaker will be packaged inside a bento box and include a wasabi bowl and chopsticks with shoelace aglets upon purchase, elevating the collaboration to deliver an immersive food-fashion experience grounded in traditional Japanese cuisine and custom.
With an exclusive London pop-up event, the GEL-LYTE III ‘Wasabi’ launches on March 8th and retails at £120.
