SoundCloud launches “First On SoundCloud” Ad Campaign:
SoundCloud is trying to do better by its creators with a new ad campaign titled First On SoundCloud. It will spotlight 10 artists from across SoundCloud’s global community in pop, hip-hop, dance music and elsewhere. Among those who will be a part of the program include Kehlani, Galimatias, Taylor Bennett, Lorine Chia, Melo Makes Music, Party Pupils, Jay Prince, Cathedrals, starRo, and Witt Lowry. Artists who want to be included in social media pushes, monetization or playlisting by SoundCloud should tag their song with #SCFIRST and it will be considered. The campaign will highlight their stories through video, photos and more.
Pandora Buys Digital Audio Advertising Platform Adswizz:
Pandora is looking to bolster its digital advertising with the acquisition of AdsWizz, which currently has clients that include Spotify, Deezer and TuneIn. Once the deal is finalized, AdsWizz will become a subsidiary of Pandora and current CEO Alexis van de Wyer remaining at the helm of AdsWizz according to Hypebot. The deal is worth $145 million, with 50% being paid in cash and the remainder in either cash or stock.
Instagram Changing User Feeds To Be More Chronological:
Instagram has heard the complaints about their feed and will make it more chronological. They switched to a algorithmic feed in 2016 and since then users have complained about seeing 4 day old posts instead of the newest content. In a post on their website, Instagram said, “we’re also making changes to ensure that newer posts are more likely to appear first in feed.” They will also experiment with a “new posts” feature, which will allow you to see the new posts at the top of your feed.
Beatport Launches New Genre, Unveils Plans For Creative Service Division:
Beatport has announced the launch of a new genre Melodic House and Techno. The content had been dispersed among techno, tech-house, house and electronica in the past. Now music by the likes of Stephan Bodzin, Patrice Bäumel, Oliver Koletzki, Mind Against, Matador, Finnebassen and Bedouin will be found in its own genre.
It also has announced a new Creative Services Division. The details are still very vague, with more to come in the next few months and year. The CSD will allow “brands to connect with the largest audience and the most influential creators in dance music,” according to a press release. The program will be available to all artists on Beatport and “accelerate dance music culture through a variety of programs.”
