Small Brooklyn venue, Starvue will close its doors in May. The Bushwick loft has hosted names like Eli Escobar, Seb Wildwood, Tim Sweeney, Anthony Naples, Tommie Sunshine and Maria Chavez. It opened in 2015 and has had several parties a month since then.
According to the owner Cecily Pinkerton, the venue will close because of financial limitations and she is going to grad school.
"Because so many wonderful new clubs have opened within a few blocks of me," Pinkerton told Resident Advisor. "It's become tougher to be a sole owner without partners or financial backing. Finally, the physical space itself has some limitations. It's hard to compete with newer places that have amenities like outdoor space or a full bar and or restaurant. However, after grad school, it's entirely possible I'll work on a fresh business plan for a venue if the interest is still there on the part of the public."
The final shows will happen the weekend of May 18th and 19th, featuring secret guests from Detroit.
