Without a doubt, Coachella has taken a few giant steps towards the mainstream over the past five years by hosting more mainstream EDM acts in the once very underground focused Sahara tent. However, back in 2013, the smaller sized Yuma tent was opened up and the underground had found a new home at Coachella. A change which was inevitable in order to accommodate the EDM explosion and the festival's attendance increase to 120,000 plus.
The massive stage of the Sahara tent now plays host to the unsophisticated sounds of artists like Alison Wonderland, REZZ, and Deorro. The Yuma tent is where you will find underground stars like Jamie Jones, Joseph Capriati, and Chris Liebing. Legitimate dance juggernauts like Richie Hawtin were also moved into the Yuma tent but he along with other thriving underground artists like Dubfire and Maceo Plex have since established live shows which has thrusted them onto other outdoor, larger stages like the Mojave and the Gobi.
So if you're a seasoned and more experienced listener of dance music, you will find almost all you require exclusively inside the Yuma tent and at The Do Lab as well. But on occasion, you will find yourself venturing out to some of the other outdoor stages to experience live performances from the likes of the disco trailblazer himself, Nile Rodgers who's slated to make a 4PM main-stage appearance along with his disco supergroup, CHIC!
