The advantages of being the big dog on the block. Live Nation is bringing back Festival Passport and expanding its offering this year.
After selling out in 2017, it is doubling the number of passports being sold in 2018 to 2,500, granting purchasers GA access to the 100+ participating festivals around the globe. Additionally, there will be a VIP Passport, which will give attendees VIP entry.
GA passports cost $999 and the VIP tier is $5,000.
Among the festivals included in the scheme are Bonnaroo (US), Austin City Limits (US), Governors Ball (US), Firenze Rocks (Italy), Falls Festival (Australia), Lollapalooza (Germany, France, US), Rock Werchter (Belgium), Sasquatch! Music Festival (US) and Openair Frauenfeld (Switzerland). When you have hundreds of festivals around the world under your control, this is something you can do. Also there is no way for someone to get to ALL of these festivals so it makes sense.
However, this may come a little late for some who have already bought tickets, but hardcore fans will still be into the idea. The timing isn’t by accident with AEG’s Coachella set to steal the headlines for the next two weeks. Live Nation wants to shift attention from its reported Justice Department inquiry into its reported monopolistic practices, which it denies.
To get tickets, fans must register through Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan platform here. Registration begins today, Monday, April 9, at 8am PDT and closes Thursday, April 12 at 8pm PDT. You will get a passcode the evening of the 16th and then they go on sale Tuesday, April 17 at 8am PDT at LiveNation.com/Passport, while supplies last.
