Diplo and Mark Ronson have revealed the first single from their project together Silk City. The song titled “Only Can Get Better” featuring Daniel Merriweather is the disco-influenced funk that the pair have been hinting at since it was revealed they were working together.
It has strong roots in 1970s disco and old-school house grooves, though it feels like it could be a little funkier. The song has additional production from Alex Metric and Riton, which you can feel on some of the synth work towards the end of the track. Stream it below and pick up a coop wherever you feel like you want to do that here.
In addition to his work with Mark Ronson on Silk City and his numerous other projects, like LSD with Labrinth and Sia, Diplo is also being tabbed to help put together the World Cup 2018 anthem. He is working alongside Will Smith, Nicky Jam and Ira Istrefi on the song. The song, potentially titled, “One Life to Live. Live it Up” will reportedly be released tomorrow, May 25. Since you are dealing with FIFA and Russia, it will likely be a super tame and lyrically boring song.
Smith, Jam and Istrefi will perform it on June 14 at the World Cup opening ceremony, which will then feature the barnstormer game between two footballing powerhouses Saudi Arabia and Russia. What a way to kick off the greatest sporting event in the world!
