Work, work, work, work, work, play, play. Is that the pattern of life we really want to carry on week after week? The "stop and smell the roses" mentality is easier said than done. And the "ain't nobody got time for that" mentality is easier to live by with work and responsibility grinding you down.
But here's a fact of life: Nothing good was ever easy.
It's about damn time we all stop putting only 28.5% of our days on a pedestal and start feeling gratified with each and every day we're blessed with.
Habits, believe it or not, take only three weeks to break and that includes your mindset on the work week being a drag and the weekend being the only time to live it up. It takes commitment but it won't take long to feel the results.
A couple ideas to kick start this: take a walk without your phone every day at work, wake up 30 minutes earlier to read in bed or listen to music and make breakfast, go to a mid-week concert or comedy show, cook up a new recipe for dinner with friends and loves, turn off the tv at least once a work week to do something creative. Whatever that creative thing is all yours to decide. I personally like to write and curate music for people to listen to. Make your work week something to be proud of and life will be much more pleasant.
I hope these top chill dance tracks of April help add some spice to your mid-week hustle. Throw it on for your drive to the office, your workout at the gym or while you're cookin' up a mean dish. Enjoy mis amigos.
"Turnmills" Maribou State, Counter Records
Oh my god, they're back. It's been three LONG years since the Brit duo's last release and I've been checking their Soundcloud every two weeks like a stage five clinger for a sign of new music. Named after the now closed legendary London nightclub, Turnmills came just in the nick of time for a summer in the sun.
"Soft Landing (Jody Wisternoff & James Grant Remix)" David Hohme, Anjunadeep
I can't tell you how good it feels to debut David Hohme on this chart. His new 'Soft Landing' EP on Anjunadeep is a lavish and lush display of the Brooklyn producer's capabilities. This incredible glowing remix by Jody Wisternoff and James Grant brings his production to a whole new ethereal plane.
"As I Sleep" Tobtok & Adrian Lux feat. Charlee, Perfect Havoc Limited
Really enjoying this change of pace by Adrian Lux in collaboration with his fellow Swede Tobtok. The groovy house track keeps the tempo moving and the synthy undercurrent and Charlee's soft vocals smooth it out. Hard to reach this kind of tone with such a pop appeal.
"The Dare" Sofi Tukker, Ultra Records
Excellent track off an equally daring new album by the Brooklyn duo that seems to have the youth going mad for their Brazilian flavored sound.
"Provocateur" ZHU, Mind of a Genius
The agent of provocative electronic music gives us a voluptuous new album that makes you want to take it out to breakfast the next morning.
"All We Need" Alpha 9, Armada Music
Song that I need to see live winner of 2018. Arty's trance alias Alpha 9 packs no less of a punch.
"Villain" Yellow Claw feat. Valentina, Barong Family
I just about did a triple take when hearing this song for the first time. Yellow Claw is known for it's dump trucks full of heavy bass and jet propulsion level energy took a major chill pill for this marimba-tinged sexy track with newcomer voice Valentina. Love seeing them try something different.
"Just Friends" Hayden James feat. Boy Matthews, Future Classic
Matthews cruised down Duke Dumont's 'Ocean Drive' straight into master beat make James' recording studio for another mega hit from the infectious voice. Hayden James is a clear favorite on this chart and incredible things are ahead for the R&B mindful producer.
"Not Coming Home" Aérotique & Glaceo, Casual Jam Records
His name says everything about the music he creates. It's seductive and atmospheric.
"Me & You" HONNE feat. Tom Misch, Tatemae Recordings
A feature by Tommy "Bahamas" Misch and the lyric "you make me buzz like an astronaut" gets you major props from this chart curator. Cheers HONNE!
"Let Me" Lane 8 & Avoure, This Never Happened
A rich sophomore album and BBC Essential Mix debut from Mr. 8 in the first half of 2018 is nothing short of a blessing. Going for the trifecta, the incredible melodic yet deep house producer now showcases some of his This Never Happened label's rising stars on the newly released Root to Brand Vol.2 including this mesmerizing synthy stunner with Ukraine's Avoure.
"Worry" Felix Cartal feat. Victoria Zaro, Physical Presents
A fire flames album 'New Season' was just released from pop electro artist Felix Cartal and you best give it a listen. The featured Victoria Zaro really gives this song it's soul.
"Colours" Thunder Jackson
I love the jazzy composition intro and Thunder Jackson's lead singer's crooning voice. A live show that certainly promises to give people chills.
"Far Away Places (Tensnake Remix)" Xinobi, Discotexas
Tensnake's remixes this year have been nothing short of spectacular with features on Xinobi's remix EP and one for Charlotte Gainsbourg' Sylvia Says. Also, I don't think there is a cooler label name out there than Discotexas. Bravo.
"Rain-Edit" Bicep, Ninja Tune
Loving this minimalist edit by UK's Bicep who continues to reign supreme in the house scene year after year. No breaks, No brakes.
