Earlier this year we wrote about an initiative Keychange pushing festivals to book their lineup’s 50/50 along gender lines. The initiative started with 45 festivals and has now grown to 100, with new additions like AmericanaFest UK, Be Fresh Festival (Spain), Big Scary Monsters Big Day Out (UK), English Folk Expo (UK), Festival 20/21 (Belgium), Field Maneuvers (UK), Head For The Hills (UK), Indie Sweden Music Festival (Sweden), Jazzfest Berlin (Germany), LungA Art Festival (Iceland), MaMA Festival (France), Monkey Week (Spain), Rifflandia Festival (Canada), Music Cities Convention (Global) and Music Cities Forum (Global).
Other festivals that have signed the pledge include Bestival, MUTEK and Way Out West.
They have all pledged to make their lineups 50/50 gender equal by 2022 across music, conferences and commissions.
“We’re thrilled that just 9 months after the launch of Keychange, over 100 festivals have now pledged to reach a 50-50 gender balance by 2022,” Vanessa Reed, CEO of PRS Foundation, said in a statement. “I hope this milestone will encourage others to join in with this positive and increasingly popular movement for change.”
