Ooo Baby, It's Chill Dance Time!

The sunshine season has blessed us with her glisten and glow and it is time to boogie and bask under that warm embrace. This May Chill Dance mixtape is as hot as the sand after you first step onto the beach with a little disco infusion and carried by the welcome returns of RÜFÜS DU SOL and Bob Moses, the strong female voices and productions of Eli & Fur and Jenn Champion and some melter tracks by Lemaitre and Elderbrook.

And on Soundcloud:

"Rocket Girl" Lemaitre feat. Betty Who, UMG Recordings

Lemaitre is aptly named after the father of the Big Bang Theory with juggernaut beats that rumbles the farthest stretches of the Milky Way galaxy.

I love the Justice feel I get from the new single from the duo but with a more mainstream appeal brought by pop electronic goddess Betty Who.

"No Place" RÜFÜS DU SOL, Reprise Records

A womping grand return from the Australian trio RÜFÜS DU SOL has this writer thankful for buying his tickets to their Los Angeles show this fall.

I wasn't sure where they were taking "No Place" at first with the ethereal intro and lead singer Tyrone Lindqvist’s soft spooky croon, but then it full RÜFÜS stride with an orchestral blast off that reminded me of a Bali beach party mixed with a Christopher Nolan film score.

So happy the boys are back and even though I'm so stoked for summer, the fall isn't looking too shabby either.

"Control (Secretly Sorry) - Holy Ghost! Remix" JR JR

Holy Sh*t! It's Holy Ghost!! Two years too long since I heard some fresh tunes from this merry makers. Two years refreshing their SoundCloud page for a glimmer, a whisper, anything. My wait paid off with an absolute ripper.

This is instrumental disco at it's finest. They've brought their highest tempo offense that gives you no choice to fire it the f up on the dancefloor. It's a six minute bopper so make sure to stretch before you pull a hammy trying to keep up with their pace.

"Night Blooming Jasmine" Eli & Fur, Anjunadeep

Coming in hot at the end of May and just as the star jasmine is blooming outside my house is an oh so seductive house heater from Eli & Fur a.k.a Eliza Noble & Jennifer Skillman the UK duo and Anjunadeep vets since 2014. The roving beat and their gorgeous voices makes this an after hours must-play. Jasmine EP dropping soon.

"Sleepwalking" Elderbrook

Elderbrook had a massive 2017 with his Talking EP (my #1 of last year) and single with Camelphat 'Cola,' and is clearly not done throwing punches at our eardrums with yet another daymaker tune.

This time Empire of the Sun comes in on co-writing duties, showing just how meteoric Elderbrook's rise has been in just a year. The vocals are infectious, his progressing baseline and sample uses are unique and this is a sure fire summer top track.

"Break Through" Sons of Maria, Enormous Tunes

These two are way too cool, as is their label Enormous Tunes, the house of electro goddess Nora En Pure among others. Sip some cold ones with the boys and girls at the beach and do some bobbing in the ocean or pool with this as the soundtrack. It's picture perfect music.

"Heaven Only Knows" Bob Moses, Domino Recording Co

Almost three years ago I heard Tom Howie and Jimmy Valance's lead single "Tearing Me Up" off of Days Gone By. I immediately took to social media to exclaim it as my song of the year and electronic music has not been the same since. The Vancouver born gents changed the idea of alt/indie electronic in their danceable but not clubby house beats and seductive but not poppy brooding vocals.

Along with the RÜFÜS DU SOL the live electronic genre is in good hands and not one but both groups have reemerged this month. We are too blessed. Bob Moses' new single 'Heaven Only Knows' takes new chances which I love. The production goes heavy mid-way through. An industrial sound that would make Trent Reznor raise an eyebrow. I love the intensity out the gates, I love that it is not overly produced and I will be front and center at their LA show during their upcoming North American tour. Tickets on sale June 8th.

"Easy Drifter (Claude Von Stroke Remix)" Booka Shade, Blaufield Music

The Booka meet The Bay. Claude does his dirtiest to this already high voltage banger off of the German duo's latest album.

"All Your Love" Flight Facilities feat. Dustin Tebbutt, Glassnote Recordings

The slow burn Flight Facilites songs are often times my favorite. What I really love and what makes Flight Facilities such shimmering sea glass on a shore of sand is their ability to touch every spectrum of your emotions in their music. Taking a pause from their disco-infused bopper 'Need You' comes a confessional folk-electronic groover with fellow Aussie folk singer Dustin Tebbutt seamlessly marrying the two polar genres. There was a few months where I had Tebbutt's 'Harvest' playing on repeat and to hear him on this FF track was just enough to melt this man. Hears hoping they extend their North American tour deeper into the summer with some west coast dates!

"Time To Regulate" Jenn Champion, Hardly Art

What a voice, what a production, what a force! Seattle's Jenn is the Champion of May newcomers for this writer and I am so excited to have found this mesmerizing musician. Her debut album Single Rider is out this summer and it's the perfect sound for the season. The neon lit disco track will be the perfect after the club compliment to your night.

"Want You So Bad" Gilligan Moss, Universal Music

With influences ranging from DJ Koze to Daft Punk to Caribou and Four Tet, this Chitown duo has a strong foundation to mold themselves from. Their upcoming 'What Happened?'   EP is shaping up to be one of the jam centers of the summer.

"Downtown Shutdown" The Presets, Modular Recordings

This is the most fun song and music video of 2018 so far. Enough said. Get up, get down, get on the dancefloor.

"Rather Be" Blinded Hearts feat. Cammie Robinson

The tenth single from Blinded Hearts is his best yet with such a beautiful heardscrabbled vocalist Cammie Robinson sharing the song with him. The orchestral brass breakdown with bluesy breaks is such a fun blend of electronic music.

"Graves" CHVRCHES, Glassnote Entertainment

I am dead after hearing this song. Have a eulogy for me at chvrch. Great jam off the third album, Love Is Dead from the Scottish powerhouse group. Love the high polished glittery production on it.

"Horizon (Poolside Remix)" Tycho, Ghostly International

Not just any kind of remix from Poolside, but one with new vocals to an otherwise signature atmospheric Tycho tune. These two groups are the marble foundation this chart is built on, two of my all time favorites in the Chill Dance category and it's come full cricle that they've come together for a track. This will be on repeat at the beach all summer long, starting this Sunday.
