Now that summer is upon us, the bass music anthems that will rock the festivals to your BBQs are here. June's got it all, ranging from the heaviest dubstep bangers to the smoothest drum & bass rollers and everything in between.

1) SINISTARR – ‘55555’ [BEAT MACHINE RECORDS]

Italian label Beat Machine Records continues their cool 7” vinyl series called ‘Swinging Flavors’ with volume 6 that spotlights Detroit bass music producer Sinistarr. The two track vinyl features Sinistarr’s original footwork tune on the A-side fueled with chopped up vocals, layered breakbeats, and nice flute touches. On the B-side Jim Coles better known as Om Unit remixes the track under his Philip D. Kick alias and transforms “55555” into a footwork jungle track adding in amen breaks, piano chords, and rave touches. To top it off the digital single includes one more bonus track for the bass hungry. Essential release.

2) GREAT DANE – ‘SORRY STEVE’ [ADBC]

LA-based producer Great Dane just dropped his first single “Sorry Steve” from his upcoming full length Gamma Ray, which is set to be released in July on his own ADBC label. “Sorry Steve” is a perfect marriage of parts between the beat scene and the bass music world. The song claps hard with low-end bass weight over boom bap beats and scattered samples, making the listener either want to head bang or just chill out and get lost in it. Your choice.

3) REZZ – ‘WITCHING HOUR’ [MAU5TRAP]

Rezz, the queen of hypnotic bass, returns with her first single from her upcoming album Certain Kind of Magic out August 3. “Witching Hour” builds over haunting chord progressions before the bass hits you upside the head with a thumping beat that continues to morph into trippy territories. With one more single dropping this month, this is one of the most highly anticipated bass albums of 2018.

4) SPACE JESUS & DIGITAL ETHOS – ‘THIS IS A SIGNAL’ [WAKAAN]

Space Jesus teams up with Digital Ethos for a brand new two-track EP of weird and wonderful bass music on Liquid Stranger’s WAKAAN label. The first track on the Mars EP, “This Is A Signal” fires off bass torpedoes into the atmosphere over chunky drums and cinematic samples that gets more grimey the further along the track you venture, while “Gang Fire” closes out the bass madness on the release.

5) G JONES – ‘UNDERSTANDING THE POSSIBILITY’ [ILLUSORY RECORDS]

Santa Cruz bass producer G Jones drops his first single from his forthcoming debut album with “Understanding the Possibility” and it doesn’t disappoint. The track builds on a psychedelic bed of sounds before diving into a distorted bass abyss and interestingly morphs into a mind-bending sonic journey. Beautiful bass chaos.

6) MASTADON – 'DECIMATE' [NEVER SAY DIE]

Sydney-based Mastadon is a young dubstep producer who releases tunes on the heavier side of the bass music spectrum. His latest EP, Decimate on Never Say Die’s Black Label imprint is an example of his explosive bass force with the title track being as fierce as it is addicting.

7) SNAILS & KILL THE NOISE – ‘SHAKE THE GROUND’ [SLUGZ MUSIC]

Keeping it heavy is bass music producer Snails who just launched his label, aptly titled Slugz Music to showcase his signature “vomitstep sound.” The first release “Shake The Ground” featuring Kill The Noise is an intense experience filled with growling vocals, electric guitar riffs and bone-shaking bass. The track will have listeners headbanging at raves and moshing at festivals.

8) KRANE & MAX STYLER – ‘CHANGES’ FEAT. GOLDN [SESSIONS]

Oakland based producer KRANE unleashes his second volume of his SESSIONS series, where he spotlight’s and collaborates with up-and-coming producers, providing an opportunity to create music and release it with him. A great concept for music discovery and community. “Changes” with Max Styler featuring GOLDN on vocals delivers an uplifting trap tune with both hard hitting low end bass balanced with softer pop sensibilities.

9) DNMO – ‘ROGUE’ (FEAT. AKACIA) [DEADBEATS]

16 year old UK bass wonderkind DNMO is back with a new single on Zeds Deads’ Deadbeats imprint. “Rogue” features the attention grabbing vocals of Akacia over DNMO’s production talents, which showcase his wobbly and dark progressions with its easygoing guitar chords, compelling piano keys and shuffling percussion.

10) TAIKI NULIGHT – ‘U KNOW’ [NIGHT BASS]

Taiki Nulight drops his Broken Ribs EP on Night Bass with four bass swinging cuts blending UK Garage, house, and bassline. “U Know” is a sharp bass house tune filled with zig zagging synths and funky basslines over crisp infectious drums. Perfect for getting your late-night summer vibes on.

11) HALOGENIX – ‘DEEP NEWS’ [CRITICAL MUSIC]

Halogenix drops a new eight track EP on Critical Music delivering both beautifully crafted drum & bass alongside bass heavy halftime tunes. The title track “Deep News” falls in the latter category with its twisted synth work, moody basslines, and marching breaks. Overall a well-rounded release of bass rollers and deep halftime stompers.

12) JUBEI & MARCUS INTALEX – ‘LUBBLY JUBBLY [METALHEADZ]

Last year the drum & bass community lost Marcus Intalex, one of the scenes most respected producers. 2018 sees his spirit carry on with some posthumous releases including his collaboration with Jubei on the Metalheadz imprint. Jubei and Marcus Intalex made these tracks over the course of two meetings in Manchester that captures their synergy. “Lubbly Jubbly” is a dark and dubby tech stepper drenched with elements of sci fi and moody atmospherics.

13) DBRIDGE & SKEPTICAL - 'THAT'S NICE' [GETAHEAD RECORDS]

Mind State Vol. 1 is an 18-track drum & bass compilation for a cause. MC Ben Verse came up with the idea in conjunction with London’s 24 hour mental wellness and music festival Getahead, 50% of all album proceeds will go towards Help Musicians UK and Music Minds Matter. The tracklisting includes tunes from Chase & Status, Sub Focus, Spor, dBridge & Calyx & Teebee, Benny L, Icicle, Artificial Intelligence, The Prodigy, and more. With everything going on in the world, it’s amazing to see an underground dance music community getting together to raise awareness around mental illness and mental well-being.

14) GERRA & STONE - 'SHIFT' [VANDAL]

French drum & bass label Vandal Records is about to drop their next compilation - Modern Soul 4 LP. In the meantime, they just released a two song sampler that is a taste of things to come on the deeper side of bass music. The A-side features the production duo of Gerra & Stone on “Shift,” that rolls smoothly over warm basslines and sharp drum rolls. The B-side “Kuma” gets the dBridge remix treatment that is as experimental as it is accessible.

15) MITEKISS – ‘FARMOST’ (FEAT. EMER DINEEN) [HOSPITAL RECORDS]

Drum & Bass producer Mitekiss makes his debut on Hospital Records with the single “Farmost.” The soulful drum & bass roller moves through an array of sublime piano, percussion and superb strings and features the uplifting vocals of Hospital favorite Emer Dineen. A perfect tune for the hot summer months ahead.
